60 people evacuated from boat that ran aground in Webster Lake

WEBSTER, Mass. — A group of people had to be evacuated from a tour boat that ran aground in Webster Lake Friday morning, Webster Police said in a statement.

Police said The Indian Princess, a boat that hosts tours of Webster Lake, was blown off course by high winds that kicked up after the trip started. The boat ran ground in the portion of the lake known as South Pond.

Both the police and fire departments launched their respective boats after getting the call for help around 11:15 a.m. Other first responders staged at the end of South Point Road. They all worked together and fashioned a plank to evacuate the 60 on board, a group of senior citizens visiting from Wilmington.

No one was hurt.

“We certainly hope the senior citizens from Wilmington enjoyed their time with us,” police added. “They all were in great spirits and hope they return to resume their voyage at another time.”

Police also credited the lake residents who offered their boats, docks and other assistance.
