20-year-old pregnant woman killed in Lynn crash over weekend

LYNN, Mass. — The Lynn community is mourning the loss of Cara Marie Marsi, a 20-year-old pregnant woman who died early Saturday morning in a car crash.

Marsi was days away from giving birth to her baby, a boy she had planned to name Ashton. Her unborn son also did not survive.

On Monday, many stopped by a makeshift memorial at the scene of the crash on Walnut Street in Lynn. Some knew Marsi, others did not.

“Hopefully her family knows that Lynn embraces their loss. I came to say a prayer,” said Dottie Kiley, a Lynn resident.

Around 12:30 a.m. Saturday, police say a vehicle crossed the center line and struck the car Marsi was a passenger in, killing her and her son. A 25-year old man was seriously injured, police said. Friends at the scene told Boston 25 News the man was Marsi’s boyfriend.

“She was just a sweetheart,” a passerby said.

Her death comes at a time of significant milestones with a young son on the way. According to a former classmate, it’s was just two years ago this weekend that Marsi graduated from Lynn Tech.

“She was also there for other people who needed her in the shop. For the class of 2018, she will be missed dearly,” said Zach Rocco, a former classmate.

Police said no charges have been filed at this time, but Lynn and State Police are investigating the accident.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to raise money for Marsi’s funeral. It has seen an extraordinary outpouring of support with close to $30,000 donated through over 600 individual donations.
