2 State Police troopers, 1 Everett Police officer assaulted in pair of incidents at Encore Boston Harbor

EVERETT, Mass. — Two Mass. State Police troopers sustained injuries during a confrontation with a 25-year-old Brockton man at Encore Boston Harbor in Everett overnight Friday, according to an official release from law enforcement. An Everett Police Officer was also the victim of a separate assault and battery at the casino, police say.

Both suspects allegedly involved in the incidents have been arrested on multiple charges.

Troopers were called to the poker room at the casino just after 2 a.m. after Encore Security requested assistance with a disruptive man. While police were escorting that man out of the casino, he became combative to the troopers multiple times, officials allege.

His behavior, which State Police described as “violent,” “threatening” and “assaultive,” led to troopers subduing the suspect with a stun gun. Eventually, that suspect was transported to the Everett Police Station and charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. That suspect has been identified as Brandon Wangnoon, 25, of Brockton.

State Police plan to add charges of assault and battery on a police officer to Wangnoon’s complaint after two troopers were allegedly injured during the arrest.

One trooper was diagnosed with a concussion after being transported and evaluated at Massachusetts General Hospital. The other trooper involved sustained an apparent back injury but chose to remain on duty, per State Police.

Another man was arrested nearly two hours later at Encore Boston Harbor for disorderly conduct, and assault and battery on a police officer in an unrelated incident. That suspect has been identified as Brian Navarro, 24, of Dorchester. The victim involved was an Everett Police Officer.

Encore Boston Harbor released a statement to Boston 25 News regarding the pair of arrests:

The safety of our guests is of paramount concern for us. More than 20,000 people enjoyed the casino [Friday]. We employ more than 30 security personnel and the Gaming Enforcement Unit of the Massachusetts State Police had several officers on site last night, as they do each and every day.
