Police identify victims in fatal shooting in Brighton

BRIGHTON, Mass. — According to police, two men have been shot to death in Brighton early Saturday morning.

Boston Police received reports for a shooting near Faneuil and Brackett streets at around 12:40 a.m.

Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have identified the victims as Wilfred Peters, 26 of Brighton and Jeffrey Montaque, 27, of Cambridge.

No arrests have been made.

Neighbors in the area were shocked to see the violence in the area after the news of the fatal shooting.

"Honestly, just not something I would have thought to occur around here," Zack Reid said.

Alex Faye, another Brighton resident, preached that the neighborhood wasn't a bad one.

"This is a really, really safe area," Faye said.

Late Saturday afternoon, investigators returned to the area to focus on the first floor apartment on Faneuil Street.

A police K-9 searched the property, and police removed several bags of evidence.

Neighbors are hoping an arrest is made soon, or for police to release more information about what led to the deadly shooting.

"It's frustrating," one neighbor said. "I had to get escorted to my apartment last night, so that was a lot. I was like 'What the heck is going on in this area?' I haven't heard of anything going on in this area before."

An investigation is ongoing. Police are asking for the public's help in solving this crime.
