PEABODY, Mass. — "He doesn't remember a lot. But he remembers that guy."
That guy named Eric came to the aid of Wally Flannery last Saturday afternoon when the Lowell man's motorcycle wiped out while entering I-95 in Peabody.
"He was sitting with him. He was holding his head and saying, 'I'll stay here until the paramedics get with you,'" said Kristine Buckley.
Buckley, who's Wally's girlfriend, found out about the accident through a text message sent by a paramedic.
She learned about the mysterious Eric from Wally after he was rushed to Lahey Hospital in Burlington with serious injuries.
In fact, days later, she says Wally can't stop talking about Eric.
"Like if you went now and talked to him he'd tell you about the guy Eric who was right there to help him," she said.
Wally still has a long way to go to recover from his injuries. More surgery and perhaps rehab after that, but the key thing right now for the couple is finding Eric, so they can thank him.
A difficult task because they have no idea who he is.
No Eric in the accident report.
Just a stranger with a short name who, in never leaving Wally's side, left a deep and lasting impression.
"Wally is just a good guy and he would do it for anybody. It's nice that somebody took the time to do it for him," said Buckley.
