NBCUniversal to reboot 'Saved By the Bell' for new streaming service

Fans of classic Saturday morning television shows will be happy to know they can go back to Bayside and be "Saved By the Bell."

Elizabeth Berkley and Mario Lopez have agreed to reprise their characters Jessie and Slater and appear in the reboot of the NBC show "Saved By the Bell," E! News reported.

The show is slated to air on NBCUniversal's new streaming service called Peacock.

The show picks up as Bayside's resident heartthrob and schemer, Zack Morris, is serving as governor of California and takes a hit for closing too many low-income high schools. To help his popularity rebound, he comes up with a plan to send the impacted students to the highest performing schools, which of course, includes Bayside, E! News reported.

Mark-Paul Gosselaar is on the ABC show "Mixed-ish" but has said he'd consider reprising his career-launching role.

"Saved By the Bell" ran on NBC from 1989 through 1993, according to The Hollywood Reporter. It also had multiple series and TV movie spinoffs. It was itself a reboot of a Disney Channel show called "Good Morning Miss Bliss."

But "Saved By the Bell" isn't the only reboot on tap when NBC jumps into the streaming game. E! News reported Soleil Moon Frye once again will star in "Punky Brewster," reprising her role.

There is also a reboot of "Battlestar Galactica."

Peacock will have some original programming, according to a company press release.

The list includes "Rutherford Falls," co-created and starring Ed Helms; "Dr. Death," featuring Alic Baldwin, Jamie Dornan and Christian Slater; and "Brave New World," starring Demi Moore.

The streaming service, which launches in April, will also be home to NBC classics like "The Office," "Parks and Recreation" and "Cheers."

CBS has already had its own subscription streaming service called CBS All Access.
