'Zonkey' debuts at Mexican zoo

TAMAULIPAS, Mexico (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A rare and unusual cross-breed made its debut at a Mexican zoo this week.

A "zonkey," a cross between a zebra and a donkey, was born at the Reynosa Zoo. The animal can also be known as a "zedonk."

The parents of the animal made daily trips across the zoo to see one another, leading to the female zebra eventually getting pregnant.

The zoo says the case is so rare because zebra and donkey chromosomes are not compatible.
