You can now follow the CIA on Instagram

BOSTON — The US Central Intelligence Agency is the latest government agency to join social media.

On Thursday, the CIA launched their account, saying they're joining the digital community to increase transparency.

In their first post, the agency published a photo containing several spy-looking items laid out on a desk, such as a wig, headphones and a top secret pulp bag with the caption "I spy with my little eye..."

The account gathered a following of over 22,000 users in less than 24 hours, while the first post recieved over 10,000 likes.

It's not clear what the CIA will actually do with its new social media account or what their social media voice will be like.

It could be an account similar to the one run by the Department of Defense, with carefully selected images accompanied by impactful captions for their 627,000 followers.

The TSA account, on the other hand, with its 988,000 follower count, lightens the mood with quirky, often humorous posts that appeal to a younger audience while educating and answering travel safety questions.

Other government agencies also use Instagram, such as NASA, which has over 41 million followers and the NOAA, with 587,000.
