Wheels stolen off Mercedes at Methuen car dealership

METHUEN, Mass. – Police in many communities are investigating the theft of wheels off cars, but a recent incident in Methuen might be one of the most brazen yet.

Often times, the thieves target apartment and MBTA parking lots, but now they’ve started stealing wheels off cars at dealerships.

In the span of only three minutes, two men were able to pull all four wheels off a Mercedes at Moschetto Brothers Auto Dealership in Methuen.

“Three minutes to jack up a car and get the wheels off and put it on blocks and be out of here – totally gone in three minutes,” Fred Moschetto said.

The value of the four stolen tires is about $7,700.

“It was a Mercedes CLS and it had the Mercedes sport wheel package so it’ probably why they were looking for that one particular wheel,” Moschetto said.

Although the video isn’t clear enough to make out the writing on the van – Moschetto hopes someone will recognize it and call Methuen police.

He also recommends using wheel locks, something many of the cars on his lot have installed, and more will after this theft.

“It probably would have taken five to ten minutes to get off if these were on there,” he said.
