Christopher McCallum, a married father of three who lived in Bridgewater, died after he was found unconscious and bleeding outside an American Legion Post in Quincy on Jan. 27.

"They are desperate for more public's help of those that were at the event... to step up and fill them in on what they saw," McCallum's brother-in-law, Bill Doyle, told Boston 25 News.

Doyle said that the family is at a loss.

At 44 years old, McCallum worked long hours as a power engineer to support his wife of 20 years, and his three teenage boys.

"They are devastated. They are getting by, it’s still a shock," said Doyle.

Last Sunday, McCallum went to see a band called "Charlie Don't Surf" at the Squantum American Legion Post in Quincy.

McCallum saw a group of people fighting, and went to help break it up. He was punched, fell back and hit his head.

After hours on life support, McCallum died. His youngest son, who has autism, is having an extremely hard time understanding what's happening, his family said.

The family is begging the public to please come forward with any information.

"We are hoping the police will get some additional leads from the public. It’s been frustrating from that perspective with dealing with laying him to rest and going through the services," Doyle said.

A funeral Mass is planned for Tuesday morning at Sacred Heart Church.
