Two teens arrested after shooting at Planet Fitness in Lynn

LYNN, Mass. — Two teenagers were held without bail on Monday, accused of shooting at another man while he was inside a Planet Fitness in Lynn.

Jahkeal Browne and Kymauri Jean-Lestin, who are both 19, appeared in Lynn District Court to face charges including armed assault with intent to murder, several gun and ammunition charges, and felony drug trafficking. The two hid behind a wall during their arraignment, and pleaded not guilty to the charges.

No injuries were reported in the incident on Saturday afternoon. An off-duty officer heard several gunshots at the gym on Boston Street, and followed the suspects until other police officers arrived, police said.

The teenagers knew their victim from high school in Everett, and this was likely retaliation from a 2017 incident, police said in their report.

One witness told Boston 25 News that it was "absolute chaos" inside the gym when gunfire erupted. The witness said 60-80 people who were working out ran for cover in the gym bathrooms.

"Pop, pop, pop. The glass was shattering and people were screaming and they dropped the weights," said the witness, who asked not to be identified.

Photographs showed bullet casings scattered across the gym floor.

"There were bullets all over the place, fragments. Bing, bing, bing, ricochets all over the gym, middle of the gym, far corner of the gym," the witness said.

Planet Fitness was back up and running on Monday, despite a broken window.
