LA VERNE, Calif. — An alert police officer on patrol is credited with arresting a man wanted on murder charges, after seeing the suspect pushing a shopping cart filled with detergent.
The La Verne Police Department said in a post on social media that Corporal McKindley was on patrol in the area of a Vons supermarket. While near the front of the store, McKindley noticed “a male individual rushing out of the store pushing a cart filled with over 20 large Tide laundry detergent bottles, followed by the store manager.”
Police said that when McKindley made contact with the man, he determined the suspect was wanted on a $2 million warrant for murder by the San Bernadino County Sheriff’s Department.
Officers held the suspect until detectives from San Bernadino arrived to take him into custody, KTLA reported.
The officer returned the detergent to Vons.
The San Bernadino County Sheriff’s Department has not responded to questions about the suspect’s identity or the murder case.
