MARIETTA, Ga. — A New Jersey man is accused of attempting to break into a suburban Atlanta home in what police are calling a “bizarre” attack.
Harjit Singh, 32, of Vineland, was arrested Thursday and charged with felony invasion, felony terroristic threats, obstruction, aggravated battery, and criminal damage in the second degree, according to Cobb County Sheriff’s Office online booking records.
According to the Marietta Police Department, a couple was at their home in suburban Marietta when Singh allegedly knocked on their door at 11:55 a.m. EST, WSB-TV reported.
Police said that when the residents opened their door, Singh broke glass on and around the entrance and attempted to enter their home, according to the television station.
Singh then allegedly walked down the driveway and vandalized the homeowners’ mailbox before returning to the front door, the Marietta Police Department wrote in a Facebook post.
Police said Singh damaged plants, glass and a table on the front porch before attempting again to enter the home. Singh then allegedly picked up a piece of broken glass and used it to slash one of the homeowners, police said.
When officers arrived, Singh had blood on his hands and feet, WSB reported.
Authorities said Singh ignored officers’ commands, prompting them to use a stun gun to “get him under control,” the police department wrote on Facebook.
He was arrested and booked into jail where he is being held without bail, online booking records show.
“While this is clearly not normal for our community, it does serve as a good reminder to always be vigilant and have a backup plan (just in case),” the department wrote in its social media post. “Thankfully the homeowners are safe and will make a full recovery.”
