Suspicious man seen walking on UNH campus

DURHAM, N.H. — A suspicious man was seen walking on the University of New Hampshire campus this past Sunday and an Uber driver alerted campus police.

At around 4 a.m., the UNH Police Department was notified by the Uber driver of seeing an alleged male walking with an alleged intoxicated female on Main Street in the area of the Whittemore Center. The Uber driver and a female passenger grew concerned for the well-being of the seemingly intoxicated female, whom they convinced to get into the Uber driver's car for a safe ride to her residence.

About an hour later, the Uber driver stated seeing the same alleged male with a different female who appeared inebriated. The Uber driver took action and pulled a knife on the man, who then allegedly ran off.

The Uber driver waited more than three hours to report the two incidences to Durham or UNH Police. Once contacted, the agencies started an immediate investigation while also reviewing surveillance footage from the area. Subsequent interviews placed the incidents three blocks away on campus, possibly in the area of McDaniel Drive.

Investigators from both agencies have not been able to locate the incidents on area surveillance that should have picked up the alleged activity. On Monday they are re-interviewing persons of alleged involvement.

Anyone with any additional information of this specific incident on McDaniel Drive is encouraged to contact the UNH Police Department at (603) 862-1427 or the Durham Police at (603) 868-2324.
