BOSTON — A Boston man was arrested after attempting meet up with a minor for sex in Rhode Island, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Rafael Leal, 38, was taken into federal custody after police say he tried to "entice a minor child to engage in illicit sexual conduct."
Leal was arrested at his home in Boston by FBI agents Tuesday.
According to court documents, Leal sent text messages to the minor in an attempt to have sex with the child and hide it from the child's parents.
Police say Leal went to Rhode Island four times and secretly sent gifts to the victim.
Leal has been charged with using the internet to entice a minor to engage in sexual activity, which could land him in prison for 10-years or even the rest of his life.
He's also charged with traveling across state lines to engage in sexual activity with a minor, which carries a prison sentence of up to 30 years.
