North Reading woman charged with assaulting federal officer in Boston

BOSTON — Federal authorities arrested a woman from North Reading on Friday and charged her with assaulting a federal officer.

Francesca Elliott, 24, was arraigned in federal court in South Boston on one count of assaulting a federal officer.

According to court documents, Elliott and an unidentified man left an event at TD Garden around 10:30 p.m. on August 17 and entered the grounds of the Thomas P. O’Neill Federal Building on Causeway Street in Boston.

A uniformed Federal Protective Service officer said both the pair was speaking in a loud, aggressive manner and appeared to be intoxicated. As the two walked toward the uniformed officer, the man appeared to become more aggressive and started charging at the officer, who ordered him to stop. The man kept rushing towards the officer, becoming more aggressive, balling his fists and shouting at the officer to “Do you job.” At that point, fearing the man was about to assault him, the officer informed him he was being arrested for disorderly conduct and to place his hands behind his back.

The officer said as he was trying to arrest the man, Elliott struck him in the face with her cellphone, causing a cut on his right eye. The officer released the man. After a brief struggle, he was able to handcuff Elliott.

Elliott was released on conditions following her initial court appearance on Friday. She faces up to 20 years in prison, up to three years of supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000.
