NH driver out on bail after crashing bus full of kids

NOTTINGHAM, NH (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A New Hampshire school bus driver is out on bail and facing charges after crashing a bus full of students into a tree.

Nottingham police say 28-year-old Stephanie Boyd was distracted by a "device" before the crash. A student initially reported that her attention was on the device, not the road. Boyd eventually turned herself and her cell phone into police.

A tree stopped the bus from rolling down a steep ravine, but the crash left one student with a broken jaw and concussion. Two other students suffered injuries as well.

FOX25 has learned that this wasn't Boyd's first bus accident. Last March, following a snowstorm Deerfield police say Boyd was with her own child when she lost control.

"It's very sad for the children and their families. It sounds like the bus driver may have made a silly mistake," a Nottingham resident said.

Boyd was suspended by the private bus company Dail Transportation. She is out on bail and charged with reckless conduct and reckless driving, but won't be behind the wheel of a school bus anytime soon as she turned her driving certificate in to the state.
