Driver dies after car loses control, careens into NH river

ERROL, N.H. — Authorities are investigating a deadly drive in New Hampshire after a car careened into a river Tuesday night.

New Hampshire State Police say they responded to Route 16 southbound near the Route 26 intersection in the town of Errol around 5:40 p.m. for a report of a car driving erratically. Approximately two miles from that intersection, responding officers found a car partially submerged in the Androscoggin River, according to officials.

First responders pulled the driver from the wreckage and transported him to a nearby hospital. He was pronounced dead a short time later.

The victim has been identified as 51-year-old James Novick of Berlin, New Hampshire.

Authorities say the vehicle lost control crossing the center line on Route 16 into the northbound lane and veered off the road, eventually finding it’s way into the water.

Police are actively investigating the cause of the crash and are asking anyone who witnessed the accident to contact State Police Troop F.

It is unknown if weather played a factor.
