Neighbors fed up as Salem, NH resident lets boxes of printers fill backyard

Residents in Salem, New Hampshire are getting fed up as a homeowner lets boxes of printers pile up in his backyard.

A neighbor told Boston 25 News that the printers arrived in boxes by the truckload about a year ago, with the debris spanning across the entire backyard.

The chief building official for the town said there used to be twice as much debris in the yard, and said, initially, the homeowner made an effort to clean things up before inevitably stopping.

The property is now vacant, and the town filed a lawsuit against the homeowner last November to try and force a clean-up.

So far, however, the lawsuit hasn't garnered any attention, and the neighbors are getting more upset.

"It’s disgusting," John Manning said. "My main concern is, this is a family neighborhood right here. You have a lot of kids running around here. I personally have seen some rats over there. People who live up on the corner have rats over their house. They caught me yesterday, and that’s when I got upset."

The next court hearing for the case is scheduled for April 15, and if the property is not cleaned up by then, the town will likely be forced to hire a company to clean up the mess.

If that happens, a lien will be placed on the property for the cost of the clean-up.
