Heard a loud noise in the North Shore area? The 385th Muster at Salem Common

SALEM, Mass. — If you were in the North Shore area Saturday morning, fighter jets flew over the Salem Common to kick off the 385th Muster event.

Hundreds of people showed up to watch the reenactment of the “First Muster” on behalf of the Massachusetts National Guard, the 2nd Corps of Cadets Veteran Association, and the Salem Veterans Council.

The ceremony commemorates the Anniversary of the country’s first muster in 1637 in Salem Massachusetts. Salem is the birthplace of the National Guard. Many members of the Ancients have served or are currently serving in the Guard. Saturday’s event brought more than 600 troops to the Common, as well as a cannon salute.
