Mass. State Police: Top Ten Wanted Sex Offender arrested

TAUNTON, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Mass. State Police arrested a man on their Top Ten Wanted Sex Offenders list Friday.

Michael P. Cunningham, 31, was arrested for failing to register as a sex offender. He was also arrested on a warrant stemming from a 2011 incident with an ex-girlfriend for kidnapping, two counts of aggravated assault and battery, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

Investigators say Cunningham was identified as a suspect in the 2002 sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl. He was convicted of indecent assault and battery on a person over 14 in 2004.

Cunningham was required to register as a Level 3 sex offender, but failed to do so.

The 31-year-old was also sought by Taunton police for allegedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend in 2011. According to a wanted poster, Cunningham's ex-girlfriend was hospitalized with extensive injuries that included a broken clavicle and choke marks around her neck in the incident.

Cunningham is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Taunton District Court.
