Man shot and killed in officer-involved shooting in Reading

READING, Mass. — A 43-year-old man was shot amd killed by a police officer in Reading Saturday afternoon.

The incident happened on Main Street around 4:30 in the afternoon.

According to the Middlesex District Attorney, police received a call around 3:45 for an alleged assault between the 43-year-old man and a person living in the home.

When they arrived, police found the home was locked from the inside. They eventually gained access, but the suspect had fled. Multiple officers eventually found him - and at 4:33 p.m., shots were fired by a Reading Police officer, wounding the suspect.

The suspect was brought to Lahey Hospital, where was pronounced dead.

The officer was also brought to an area hospital, and has since been treated and released.

Police had also been called to that home Friday night for an altercation with the suspect. In that case, he had fled the scene before police got there. They were unable to locate him during that incident.

Officials spent the evening collecting evidence and interviewing a couple of people who appeared to be employees at the service center.

The identity of the man has also not been released yet.

The case remains under investigation.
