Man dies from injuries suffered in Lawrence shooting

LAWRENCE, Mass. — A man has died at Lawrence General Hospital after a shooting on Monday, police say.

Lawrence Police responded to Brook Street around 5 p.m. after receiving a report of a man shot in the head.

Police say the victim, identified as 20-year-old Jathian Amador, was treated on scene by paramedics and EMT's before being taken to Lawrence General Hospital.

Amador succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, Lawrence Police say.

Natalia Toribio, a family friend of Amador, said she and her family rushed outside after the man she considers a cousin was shot in the head.

"Honestly, I didn't feel like ti was real when I saw him laying on the ground," Toribio said. "I thought it was all fake. Nobody knows what happened.

Family friends say Amador was a father of a young child.

"He wasn't a bad person, he was always happy," Toribio said. "It was hard seeing him lay on the ground like that."

All along the the street, residents heard gunfire around 5 o'clock Monday afternoon and took cover.

"I was in the living room in my home,' Luis Robles said. "I heard about five gunshots. I told the kids to move away from the window and go into the kitchen in the back. I waited, and then I came outside. I was hearing the people screaming over there a group of people saying, ‘Call the police, call the police!’"
