LYNN, Mass. (AP) - The trial of a Lynn tow truck driver who authorities say rear-ended a car at a red light three years ago, killing a passenger in the other vehicle, is scheduled to start.
Derek Gallien's trial on motor vehicle homicide and other charges is expected to get underway Monday.
Prosecutors say the 26-year-old Gallien was driving on the Lynnway in July 2010 when he struck a Honda Civic from behind, causing both vehicles to burst into flames.
A rear-seat passenger in the Honda, 23-year-old Edward Ma of Lynn, was trapped and died. Gallien as well as the Honda's driver and front-seat passenger escaped with minor injuries.
The Daily Item reports that Gallien told police he was distracted by his truck's onboard computer. He has pleaded not guilty.
