Two Acton police officers placed on leave

ACTON, Mass. — Two Acton police officers are on administrative leave while an investigation into allegations of inappropriate conduct takes place.

The news was announced by Town Manager John Mangiaratti and Police Chief Richard Burrows, in a release posted to the Town of Acton’s website, Monday.

“A person who identifies themself as a former Acton-Boxborough Regional High School student, reported to an Acton Police Department sergeant that they had been the victim of past inappropriate conduct by two officers in separate incidents while the officers had been working as Acton-Boxborough Regional High School school resource officers,” the release reads.

The allegations were made to an Acton Sergeant during a traffic stop, according to the release. The release goes on to say that police also came across a social media post “detailing the same alleged conduct.” The release does not indicate if the person who made the social media post is the same person who reported the incident to the Acton Police Sergeant.

The Middlesex District Attorney’s office has been called in to investigate the matter.

Acton Police Chief Richard Burrows called the allegations “deeply disturbing,” while adding “[Acton Police] take all such claims seriously. We are cooperating with and have turned over our report of this matter to Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and State Police Detectives assigned to her office.”

“The Town of Acton takes all allegations made against its employees seriously, and we await the conclusion of the district attorney’s investigation,” said Town Manager Mangiaratti.
