TSA: $10,000 found hidden in ‘slow cooker’ at Logan Airport

BOSTON — An unusual day for Transportation Security Administration workers at Boston’s Logan Airport.

The TSA says its officers discovered $10,000 hidden inside a slow cooker at the airport.

A social media post from the TSA indicates it’s unclear why the passenger decided to hide the money in the slow cooker.

“The woman was going through passenger security screening with the slow cooker where our Computed Tomography (CT) scanners can easily detect bulk currency,” said Daniel Velez of the TSA.

The TSA says passengers are allowed to bring cash through checkpoints, but any bulk detection of currency is passed along to local law enforcement.

The TSA says Massachusetts State Police eventually cleared the passenger for travel and the passenger’s money.

The woman traveling with the money missed her flight as a result of the inspection, but she was allowed to rebook her trip to LaGuardia Airport in New York.

“It’s not uncommon for us to detect bulk currency,” said Velez “It’s mostly found in towels, shoes, briefcases, etc. Never seen it stashed in a slow cooker.”
