State Police search for suspect who crashed vehicle in Billerica after police chase

State Police were searching on land and also by helicopter for a suspect who crashed a Ford Escape shortly after a police pursuit in Billerica on Saturday.

That search ended early Saturday evening, with state police saying they had not located the suspect.

State Police confirmed with Boston 25 that troopers were pursuing a white Ford Escape on Route 3 north -- which had initiated to try and stop the Ford for speeding -- when it exited onto Concord Road.

The pursuit ended, but a short time later, Billerica Police found the Ford after it had crashed at 18 French St., state police said.

There were no occupants in the vehicle.

Police were searching for the suspect with foot and vehicle patrols, with a K9 unit and also with the State Police Air Wing, officials said.

An investigation in the incident is ongoing.
