‘Significant’ brush fire in Middleborough caused commuter headache, police say

MIDDLEBOROUGH, Mass. — The Thursday evening commute took a bit longer than usual after a wildfire shut down multiple lanes of a Massachusetts highway.

State Police say a “significant” brush fire in the median of Route 495 in Middleborough is caused traffic headaches for commuters. At one point, all lanes of 495 northbound were shut down and only the breakdown lane of 495 southbound was getting by.

After battling the flames for hours, crews finally extinguished the blaze just before 6:30 p.m.

All lanes of Route 495 have since been reopened.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
