Several teens and one adult arrested following large fight at Boston playground

BOSTON — The Boston Police Department arrested several teens and one adult following a large fight at a playground Friday night.

Investigators tell Boston 25 News it happened during a football game at Carter Playground on Columbus Ave.

The game was between Archbishop Williams High School and a co-op team made up of students from Cathedral High School, Matignon High School and Cristo Rey High School in Dorchester.

Hundreds of people witnessed the melee, which spilled on to the street.

Boston Police say a large group of juveniles formed at a nearby tennis court and a large fight broke out. Once the group dispersed, officers found a 16-year-old boy laying on the ground. The teen refused to cooperate with officers and fled from the scene, according to police.

A large crowd formed and became increasingly aggressive with officers, according to law enforcement officials. Police called for mutual aid to help quell the crowd.

In total, seven people were arrested as a result of the fight, including:

  • A 15-year-old juvenile female, charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
  • A 15-year-old juvenile female, charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
  • A 15-year-old juvenile male, charged with assault and battery, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
  • A 16-year-old juvenile male, charged with affray.
  • A 17-year-old juvenile male charge with disorderly conduct.
  • A 17-year-old juvenile male charge with disorderly conduct.
  • Chiquela Howard, 37, of Weymouth, MA, charged with disorderly conduct, assault and battery, assault and battery on a police officer, and resisting arrest.

The incident is still under investigation.
