FOXBORO, Mass. — After hiring Patriots Hall of Famer Mike Vrabel as the 16th head coach in franchise history earlier this month, New England is expected to turn to another familiar face as they embark on their rebuild.
Newly hired Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel is expected to hire Josh McDaniels as his offensive coordinator, the 48-year-old’s third stint in Foxborough, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport.

McDaniels was New England’s offensive coordinator under Bill Belichick for 13 seasons across two stints and an assistant coach under Belichick for five years prior to that. Vrabel played linebacker in New England for eight seasons (2001-08) while McDaniels was on staff.
New England hopes that McDaniels’ experience, which includes a hand in each of the team’s six Super Bowl titles, will help build on Drake Maye’s promising rookie season.
In 2021, McDaniels’ last season in New England, he helped guide New England into their lone playoff berth since the departure of Tom Brady. Rookie QB Mac Jones was selected to the Pro Bowl after completing 67.6 percent of his passes for 3,801 yards, 22 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions.
McDaniels was hired as head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders in 2021 but was fired during his second season with the team, compiling a 9-16 record.
