Police searching for suspect after person stabbed near Northeastern University campus

BOSTON — Boston police are searching for a suspect in connection with a stabbing near Northeastern University’s campus on Wednesday morning.

Officers responding to a report of a stabbing in the area of 291 Saint Botolph Street shortly before 8:30 a.m. found a person who had been stabbed, according to the Boston Police Department.

“At approximately 8:15 am this morning, an assault took place near the corner of Huntington Avenue and Gainsborough Street. A person who is not affiliated with Northeastern was injured in the incident and entered a Northeastern building where NUPD rendered aid, said Renata Nyul, Vice President for Communications for Northeastern.

The victim was rushed to a local hospital. There was no word on the extent of their injuries.

" Although the incident did not take place on Northeastern’s campus, the university alerted its community to avoid the area while BPD and NUPD were responding. BPD is searching for the suspect who fled the area. The building has fully reopened, the statement said.

Additional details weren’t immediately available.

An investigation is active and ongoing.
