Police: Officer assaulted by man at Southborough Public Safety Complex

SOUTHBOROUGH, Mass. — A Southborough police officer was rushed to the hospital after he was assaulted inside the town’s public safety complex on Cordaville Road around 9 p.m. Monday, officials said.

According to Southborough police, the officer was investigating a complaint about threats. As he was interviewing the complainant inside the police department’s lobby, that person allegedly assaulted him with a weapon.

Southborough police have not said what type of weapon was used.

According to police, the suspect ran outside. After a brief struggle, the man was arrested. He has been charged with assault and battery with a deadly weapon and is currently being held at Bridgewater State Hospital.

The officer was taken to UMass Medical Center in Worcester. He was treated and released early Tuesday morning.

Massachusetts State Police are investigating. Westborough police also assisted at the scene Monday night.
