Police identify 27-year-old male victim in fatal Dedham rollover crash

WESTWOOD, Mass. — A 27-year-old man died in a rollover crash that caused a Toyota RAV4 to become completely submerged in a retention pond on Interstate 95 early Saturday morning, state police said.

Liam Fitzgerald, who was a passenger in the Toyota, was flown to a Boston hospital where he was later pronounced dead, state police said. The person believed to be the driver was treated and released from the hospital.

The crash occurred at around 4:20 a.m. Saturday on I-95 northbound at the University Avenue exit in Dedham.

MSP told Boston 25 that a Toyota RAV4 rolled over and landed upside down in a retention pond between the roadway and the ramp.

Westwood firefighters entered the water, forced entry into the vehicle, and extricated both male victims from the completely submerged vehicle. At the scene, troopers performed emergency medical aid to try to save the victims.

The crash remains under investigation by patrols and detectives from Troop H of the Massachusetts State Police, the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section.
