2nd worker at Brockton Stop & Shop tests positive for COVID-19

BROCKTON, Mass. — A second worker at the Stop & Shop on North Montello Street in Brockton has tested positive for COVID-19, a company spokesperson confirmed in a statement to Boston 25 News.

Boston 25 News reported the first case on Monday.

The entire store has undergone an extensive deep cleaning in accordance with guidelines set forth by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the spokesperson added.

The infected employees won’t be allowed to return to work until doctors determine they are no longer contagious for COVID-19. Also, any employee who had close contacted with the infected persons has been asked to self-quarantine.

“Grocery stores are an essential community service, and nothing is more important to us than the health of our associates and customers,” the spokesperson said in a statement. “We are continuing extensive measures to help ensure all our stores and facilities are safe for everyone.”

Brockton is one of the state’s cities hardest hit by COVID-19.
