PLYMOUTH, Mass. — On Saturday morning, the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office identified a young man who drowned Friday night in Plymouth.

Jacob Peabody, 23, of Taunton, died after drowning at Ellis Haven Campground in Plymouth.

The drowning happened at Big Sabys Pond at the campground on Federal Furnace Road around 7:30 p.m., according to Plymouth Fire Chief Ed Bradley.

The young man was rushed to Beth Israel Hospital in Plymouth where he was pronounced dead.

Bradley said the young man was with family at the time of his drowning.

Two others who helped search for the victim when he disappeared underwater were also taken to the hospital with chest, stomach and side pains. They were worn out from trying to find him, Bradley said.
