OSSIPEE, N.H. — A man was struck and killed while walking along U.S. Route 25E in Ossipee on Tuesday night, state police said Wednesday.
The man’s identity is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin, state police said in a statement.
A preliminary investigation found that just before 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, a Jeep Cherokee driven by Carol Mathes, 79, of Tamworth, was traveling westbound on U.S. Route 25E when the vehicle struck a man walking in the road.
First responders arrived and found the pedestrian dead at the scene, state police said.
No charges have been filed against Mathes at this time. The driver is cooperating with the investigation, state police said.
The State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene and took the lead in the investigation.
Members of the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, Ossipee Police and Fire departments, and the Freedom Police Department assisted at the crash scene.
The fatal crash remains under investigation.
