LYNN, Mass. — A 31-year-old man has been charged in a brutal attack that critically injured a man in Lynn last month.
Jeffrey Suazo of Peabody was charged with assault to murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon in the Feb. 10 attack that left Celso Esteban fighting for his life in a Boston hospital. Suazo faced a judge on the latest charges earlier this week.
Suazo remains in jail after he was also charged in another separate attack of a woman, also on Feb. 10. Esteban is his second apparent victim.
Police called both attacks random. A witness called police following the first attack, and police arrested Suazo.
The first attack occurred around 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 10, when a 29-year-old woman walking in the area of Market Square in Lynn was attacked from behind and struck, possibly with a bat. The woman is expected to survive from her injuries.
Then, minutes later around the corner, police say Esteban, who is 32 and the father of a newborn baby, was attacked from behind the same exact way, on Western Avenue. He was hit over the head, possibly also with a bat. The victim was left unconscious, and is now in critical condition, police said.
Suazo was held prior to the latest charges for the beating of the first woman he attacked, police said.
The 1st victim attacked is a woman who is recovering, & tells @LynnPoliceDept she's lucky to be alive.
