FOXBORO — The red uniforms are coming! The red uniforms are coming!

The Patriots will wear their iconic red “Pat Patriot” throwbacks for two games in 2023, the team announced Thursday.

The throwback uniforms will make their 2023 debut against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday Night Football on September 17. The Patriots will don the classic look again for a Week 13 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers on December 3.

After a decade-long absence due to the NFL’s rule limiting each team to a single helmet shell over the course of a season, the fan-favorite uniforms made their return last season. The return of the red was a case of feast and famine. After trouncing the Lions 29-0 in their reintroduction, their follow-up against the Bills in December saw the Patriots drop a crucial late-season game to their division foe, 24-10.

The throwback designs are based on the home uniform the team wore from 1961 to 1993. Even after shifting to a royal blue-based uniform set in 1993 and again to a navy blue and silver design in 2000, the red throwbacks were brought out sporadically.
