Parents show support for NH art teacher who was placed on leave over wardrobe controversy

CONCORD, NH — Dozens of parents packed the Concord, NH School Board meeting Monday night to show support for a teacher at Christa McAuliffe elementary school.

“So we’re really here just to support our teacher, faculty, and staff so they can come to school and be their authentic selves every day,” said Jess Campbell, a mother of a student at the school.

Parents say that teacher was placed on leave after a parent’s complaint against him.

“If you go at drop off, you’ll see him embracing all the kids, they’re happy everyone’s interacting with each other it’s just a really wonderful environment when he’s there,” said Campbell.

Michael Guglielmo filed that complaint against the teacher for how he dresses.

“Sometimes he’s dressed like a man, sometimes he’s dressed like a woman,” said Guglielmo. “They’re engaging and facilitating gender dysphoria among the youngest most impressionable kids in our society and that’s not their job.”

After months of back and forth with the school district, Guglielmo decided to take his daughter out of the school.

On Monday he voiced his concerns to the school board, dressed as Julius Caesar to make a point about the dress code for teachers.

“Your job is to teach our kids truth and facts and biology and not to propose or instill your social agenda whatever that may be,” said Guglielmo.

Meanwhile, more than a dozen parents spoke in support of that teacher at the meeting.

Many of them say they’re concerned this is an attack on the LGBTQ community, and they hope the district brings him back.

“I know our kids are super excited they love him, he’s just this wonderful kind soul so we’re hoping to see him back,” said Campbell.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
