NAACP attendees react to third criminal case brought against Trump

BOSTON — News of the third criminal case brought against former President Donald Trump was a topic of conversation among thousands of attendees during the final night of the NAACP Convention.

Trump was indicted Tuesday in a Justice Department investigation into his efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.

He’s charged with conspiracy to defraud the United States, witness tampering, conspiracy against the rights of citizens and obstruction of and attempt to obstruct an official proceeding.

The closing night of the NAACP included the anticipated appearance of former Secretary of State Hilary Clinton at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.

Clinton had a tumultuous run against Trump during the 2016 Presidential Election.

“I’m sure she will echo many of the concerns that have been expressed already during this convention,” said attendee Darryl Jeffries.

Clinton did not directly address the new indictment against Trump at the event.

It comes after a long-running federal investigation into alleged schemes by Trump and his allies to corrupt the peaceful transfer of power despite a decisive loss to Joe Biden.

“I think it’s been a long time coming and I’m so glad to see that no one, not even the former president of the United States of America, is above the law,” said attendee Joyce Harley.

The new criminal case comes while Trump leads the field of Republicans vying to capture their party’s presidential nomination.

He’s expected to appear in court in Washington D.C. on Thursday.
