BANGOR, Maine — A Massachusetts man was seriously injured when he was ejected from a pickup truck following a crash on Interstate 95 in Bangor, Maine on Monday morning, state police said.
Kenneth Cartledge, 25, of Beverly, Massachusetts remained in serious but stable condition following the crash around 7 a.m. Monday, state police said in a statement shortly after noon on Monday.
An initial investigation found that Cartledge, who was not wearing a seat belt, was driving too fast for road conditions, according to state police, who urged motorists to use caution in their daily commutes due to winter road conditions.
At approximately 6:55 a.m. Monday, the Bangor Regional Communications Center received multiple reports of a serious personal injury crash on I-95 at mile-marker 181 in Bangor.
When troopers arrived, they found several motorists rendering aid to a male driver, later identified as Cartledge, who had been ejected and was lying on the roadway, state police said. Cartledge was alert and talking when emergency crews arrived.
Cartledge was taken by ambulance to Eastern Maine Medical Center where he is listed in serious but stable condition, state police said.
An initial investigation found that Cartledge was traveling southbound when he lost control of his 2002 Ford F-250 pickup before crossing the center median and entering the northbound lane of travel, state police said.
After entering the northbound lane, Cartledge’s pickup overturned and he was ejected, state police said.
The vehicle ended up on its side, in the northbound lane and blocking both lanes of travel, state police said. This resulted in a traffic back-up and later a full shutdown of the roadway.
State Police were assisted on scene by Bangor Fire and Union Street Towing.
