Man seriously injured in shooting at Norwood apartment complex

NORWOOD, Mass. — A man was seriously injured in a shooting at a Norwood apartment complex on New Year’s Day. The 24-year-old victim was found with multiple gunshot wounds shortly after noon Friday on the third-floor balcony of an apartment at Windsor Gardens, off Route 1A.

Police continued to search for the shooter and the gun Friday night. Police reassured the public the shooting does not appear to be random and the community is not in any danger.

The victim, who does not live at the complex, was carried from the balcony by police officers, who then handed him over to paramedics for treatment. He was conscious and alert, and his injuries are not expected to be life-threatening, police said.

While MedFlight was initially requested, paramedics instead rushed the victim by ambulance to a Boston hospital, the Norwood Fire Department said in a Facebook post.

Police initially detained some people at the complex for questioning but cleared and released them. Police said they do not receive a lot of calls from the apartment complex.
