Flames engulf Range Rover Sport after mechanical failure on Route 24 in Randolph, state police say

RANDOLPH, Mass. — It was a close call for a highway driver on Tuesday when his Range Rover Sport became engulfed in flames on Route 24 after the vehicle suffered a mechanical failure, snarling traffic late Tuesday morning.

No injuries were reported in the fire, and no other vehicles were involved, state police said.

The driver, a 46-year man from West Bridgewater, was able to get out of the 2016 Range Rover Sport in time.

The charred vehicle was seen on a tow truck, completely destroyed following the incident.

Emergency crews responded to the scene at Route 24 southbound at Mile Marker 37 at approximately 9:50 a.m.

Traffic was backed up for a long stretch of Route 24 as crews responded to the scene.

Randolph Fire responded and extinguished the flames before the vehicle was towed from the scene.

Crews cleared the scene just before 11 a.m.
