DA identifies Massachusetts Maritime Academy student found dead in dorm room

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. — Authorities have identified the Massachusetts Maritime Academy student who was found dead in her dorm room earlier this week.

Troopers responding to a report of an unattended death at the public university in Buzzards Bay just before 10 a.m. Wednesday found a 22-year-old woman dead in her room, according to the Cape and Islands District Attorney Rob Galibois.

The DA’s office on Friday identified the student as Amanda Robinson, of Baltimore, Maryland.

A preliminary investigation suggests that Robinson passed away from a pre-existing medical condition and that foul play is not suspected in her death, authorities said.

In a statement, Academy President Rear Admiral Francis X. McDonald confirmed the death of one of their cadets.

“It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that I can confirm a cadet has passed away in our dorms. Until further details are available, we request that the privacy of the family be respected during this difficult time,” McDonald said.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has been tasked with performing an autopsy.
