DA: 39-year-old Milford man dies in officer-involved shooting Sunday night

MILFORD — A Milford man has died after being shot by local police Sunday evening, according to Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr. That victim has been identified as Philip Castonguay III, 39.

Police say Castonguay was in possession of a metal pipe when he charged at an officer on Sunday before being shot. Authorities initially arrived at the scene around 8:30 p.m. after calls about a disturbance caused by Castonguay.

State Police are investigating the officer-involved shooting, DA Early announced in a tweet.

The victim was transported to Milford Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. The officer was also hospitalized following the incident, though officials say that he-or-she was not injured. That officer has since been placed on administrative leave per department policy.

The District Attorney’s office said the shooting took place on Glines Avenue near Sumner Street. The fatal incident remains under investigation.
