Crews battling restaurant fire in Webster

WEBSTER, Mass. — Fire crews are on the scene of a fire at a restaurant in Webster on Friday morning.

Deputy Fire Chief Chris Jolda tells Boston 25 the first alarm came in at around 2:00 a.m. When the fire crews arrived within three minutes they found flames shooting out of the roof of the building.

The intense heat and smoke pushed crews back, and since no one was inside the building, they set up to fight the fire from the outside.

The restaurant that is burning is called the Wind Tiki. The deputy chief says the building has been around for decades in Webster.

Deputy Chief Jolda says the building has been renovated several times, and that’s making it hard to get to some of the flames.

The restaurant had closed at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday.

The state fire marshal has been notified and the investigation into the cause is ongoing. Investigators are speaking with the owner of the restaurant and witnesses.

The deputy chief says the building appears to be a total loss.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
