WELLESLEY, Mass. — A busy Wellesley road is shut down Tuesday morning after a van crashed into and toppled a utility pole.
Emergency crews responding to a report of a crash in the area of Washington Street near the Natick line found a snapped pole resting on top of a Ryder van and power lines dangling across the road, according to Wellesley police.
Motorists are being urged to avoid the area until further notice as crews work to remove hazardous chemicals from a transformer.
It’s not clear if the driver was injured in the crash.
An investigation is ongoing.
Update: Route 16 still closed at the Natick line as clean up of the pole and hazardous chemicals from a transformer are removed from the roadway. pic.twitter.com/lYLiJc8U4G
