BPD: No arrests after gunshots send bystanders scrambling in the Back Bay

BOSTON — Glass littered one side of Fairfield Street’s sidewalk, remnants of a bullet shattered CVS window. On the other side of the street, the Fidelity Investments store had its window boarded up.

Multiple gunshots were fired in the area the night before, there were no injuries, but the shooting left many shaken.

“It’s terrible,” said Linda Barrett who lives in the Back Bay.

“We’re always around this area and I don’t know what’s happening to the Back Bay, it’s really, it’s getting very, very scary.”

Boston Police were called to Newbury Street and Fairfield Street for a report of a shooting.

Hundreds of bystanders went from shopping, dining, or walking nearby, to running for cover as gunshots began.

“We heard another one, and another one and another one, everyone that we were around got up and started running,” one witness told Boston 25 News.

Thursday morning, Boston Police said they had not arrested anyone, though their investigation continues.

At least two vehicles and two businesses had ballistic damage, police added.
