EAST BOSTON — A garage in East Boston has been condemned by Boston Inspectional Services, after it was turned into an illegal home used to house 20 people.
Inspectional Services says in addition to not having permits, there were several violations.
“This unit was constructed illegally, stored hazardous material, missing smoke detectors, and no 2nd means of egress” a tweet by ISD reads.

Inspectional services went on to tweet “Converting a garage to residential units without going through proper procedures is a violation & more importantly unsafe for the occupants.”

The city is also reminding residents that all hazardous and flammable materials should be properly stored.
