New Bedford liquor store awning collapses onto sidewalk

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. — The awning on a New Bedford liquor store crashed onto the sidewalk early Monday morning.

Firefighters said they responded to Discount Liquors on West Rodney French Boulevard at 6 a.m. after reports of a structural collapse.

Crews on scene said an approximately 75-foot wooden awning had pulled away from the main structure and collapsed onto the sidewalk.

Pictures shared by the New Bedford Fire Department showed debris scattered along the street, blocking off most of the sidewalk.

Police stayed on scene until the building department arrived.

No injuries were reported.

It is unclear what caused the awning to fall.

The incident is under investigation.
